 It is our firm conviction that issues affecting inner cities and at risk youth are not just those peoples’ problems but all of OURS. We all need to get involved- from the youngest to the oldest- to see a holistic change, as such issues affect everyone. Anyone and everyone can get involved with OURS. In keeping with this, we take a 2 tier approach in everything we do to bring about holistic change: micro/macro, internal/external, urban/suburban, etc.
We seek to forge partnerships between individuals and institutions where reciprocity takes place, as we know that oftentimes receivers can quickly become dehumanized at the hands of the givers. We make every effort to ensure that mutual giving and learning take place. We do not give handouts but handups. |
More than half of the world's population- about 3.3 billion- today lives in cities. By 2030, experts predict that this urbanization trend will only increase, as more than 60% of earth's residents will live in cities. With about 1.2 billion youth between the ages of 10 and 19, there is a growing need for organizations who care for at risk youth and strive to address the many challenges facing them.
Our purpose is to bring about holistic change in issues affecting inner city neighborhoods and at risk youth, confronting obstacles to community renewal.
